Duplicate content and RSS
One of my sites took a big hit on Google search engine results this past week. I’m 99% sure it happened because of an RSS scraper using my whole feed on his RSS aggregator. This poker affiliate has been around for a while, and basically buys aged domains and puts up new scripts. Because they are using aged domains, they are getting Google authority and then Google can view the RSS feed as the original poster and penalize the actual original poster. In this case I believe it happened because credit was not given to my site, and the Google spider crawled them first because they were a more trusted site in Google’s eyes. Had I not been checking my stats every day I would not has caught this and it could have been even more devastating. I’m not even ranking in Google for the name of the site, and lost many search terms that I was ranked in top 5 for. I will be working day and night on the affected site until it ranks again. All in the day and life of a poker affiliate.
